New Single
‘Where The River Flows’

Rhyley McGrath is a travelling musician, gaining fans around Australia with his soulful vocal, catchy originals, and unique style on guitar.

With his new song, ‘Where The River Flows,’ Rhyley has combined many of the genres that have become a part of his live set. Deeply rooted in an acoustic blues style of 100 years ago, the sound now combines elements of folk, country, bluegrass, and a distinctive song-writing sound that is beginning to mature. This is the sound that you hear in ‘Where The River Flows.’

The song was recorded in an upstairs room of a store in the beautiful regional city of Bendigo, Vic, which plays a big part in the sound. It was recorded by Sam Noske, and includes Jaspar Austin-Gray on electric bass, Maddie O’Connor on vocals, and Rhyley McGrath on vocals and guitar. It was recorded along with nine other songs, which make up the album “Getting Used To Goin’ Around,' yet to be released.

The song is an up-beat folk/blues tune with a catchy chorus. It features the acoustic guitar laying down a strong rhythm, backed by a repeating bass line, with a nice clean electric guitar to embellish on the sound. It is about being tired and overworked, or the need for a change of some kind; listening to your natural urge a little more intuitively, and realising there’s a lot of ways to get by. It may have a little bit of regret, but it is a positive song meant to inspire people to listen to how they feel, and respond accordingly.

It is a song that perfectly displays the style that is starting to develop, and will continue to grow over the coming years.

Recording

We recorded this with an old friend from high school over two nights in April, 2021. We did it all in an upstairs room at a music store in Bendigo, Victoria. We managed to squeeze all the recording into the final week before we left off to play gigs all around Australia for the remainder of the year. We had to get the printed CD’s sent to meet us in Perth.

Style

From the beginning, I maintained the idea to keep this album all acoustic, with not much production. It has ended up being mainly one-take tracks, with some small exceptions. This has made it sound identical to the kind of small bar gigs, and busking sets, which I have played countless times over the last five years.

Now that we have all the CD’s printed, we’re going to travel around playing gigs all over Australia, trying to get rid of them. You can download from the link below.
